I found this week's WakkyFakt in several places, and am
presenting it in my own words.
The first escalator wasn't installed in a train station or
a department store, and was not meant to be utilitarian.
It was meant to be fun.
The first escalator was a ride in Coney Island.
I was unaware of this when I wrote the following story in
December, 2023.
A Substitute
After seven trips up and down on the department store escalators,
Melrose reluctantly got off for the last time, thinking to himself
that it had been almost, almost as much fun as the
amusement park rides he couldn't afford to go on.
